Shake n Bake’s Alexander Rossi claimed a stunning victory in the Sepang sprint race as he forced leader Fabio Leimer into a crucial mistake on the final corner of the race.
Rossi had followed Leimer from the start but had been unable to get close enough to the Swiss driver whilst championship challenger Giedo Van der Garde looked favorite for the win as he sliced his way through the field and past Rossi into 2nd. However Van der Garde’s charge was ended on lap 8 as he attempted to overtake Leimer, tapping the back of the Willows junior car and spinning out of contention.
In the final laps Rossi was able to close back in on Leimer, who had been delayed by Van der Garde, and on the final lap he found himself in the slipstream approaching the final corner. Leimer moved to defend and in so doing missed his braking point for the final corner, running wide and allowing Rossi through to take the win. Leimer followed him home less than a second behind.
