Frijns scores win in Sepang

Robin Frijns turned a surprise pole position into a comfortable victory in Sepang today.

The Dutchman led from the start, with his lead only interrupted by his pitstop, leaving the pits behind Jolyon Palmer, who had pitted earlier, but Frijns made quick work of catching and passing the Ajay Motorsports driver to win the race.

Frijns team mate Paul Di Resta finished out of the points in 9th position, but will be glad that none of his challengers for the title fared much better as Giedo van der Garde finished 6th place with just three points, whilst Valtteri Bottas was caught unawares by a spun Jerome D’ambrosio, having to pit for repairs and eventually finishing down in 13th.

Bottas team mate Charles Pic rescued the race for Spaniel finishing in 4th after being passed by Kevin Magnussen for the final podium position in 3rd. Fabio Leimer of Willows will start tomorrow’s sprint race from Pole Position after finishing in 8th and will be favorite to win that race after setting the fastest race lap today.
