Hamilton stays top on Day 2 at Imola

Lewis Hamilton set the fastest time of the second day of Pre-Season Testing at Imola today.

The Brit set a time of 1m 22.077s just over a tenth of a second quicker than his benchmark time yesterday but it was Tomas Gonzalez’s time in the Tornado in second place which surely spelled relief to the 2013 runners up after a pit lane incident left the team down on laps on Day 1. The Argentine was a quarter of a second behind Hamilton running the soft tyre compound whilst Esteban Ocon and Valterri Bottas continued their promising form in 3rd for Willows and 4th for GRM respectively.

Robert Kubica was 5th but will be disapointed to have set the least number of laps in the session despite having no obvious reliability issues. The same could not be said for Carlos Sainz (GRM) and Marcus Ericsson (ShakenBake) who both suffered Transmission problem’s although Ericsson and his team will be relieved that his issue came at the very end of the session meaning it didnt cost the Swede any significant running time.

Sainz also had the ignominy of repeating Kamui Kobayashi’s Acque Minerali adventures from yesterday with the Spaniard eventually returning to the track after a prolonged period in the gravel.

The Imola test concludes tomorrow.
