Hamilton sweeps Imola test

Lewis Hamilton continued his blistering pace in Pre Season Testing by taking the fastest time of the final day to complete a clean sweep of testing so far.

The British driver was three tenths of a second quicker than 2nd placed Romain Grosjean who saw his running curtailed by a pit lane incident involving the Frenchman and team mate Raffaele Marciello midway through the session.

The session also saw Gojira’s Kamui Kobayashi and FJR’s Benjamin Pryor stuck in the pits for an extended period with FJR boss James Brickles putting Pryor’s absense down to an engine change.

This being the final day of the first test it was clear that the drivers were pushing hard with Kobayashi also repeating his Day 1 trip through an Acque Minerali gravel trap which also claimed Tornado’s Tomas Gonzalez and Willows Stoffel Vandoorne who finished the session parked at Rivazza from an unseen ailment. ShakenBake’s Marcus Ericsson also found the gravel, but the Swede’s adventures were at Villeneuve corner instead.

The teams will now pack up their trailers and embark across the Pirenese to the Circuit de Catalunya for the 2nd and final pre-season test next week.
