Lewis Hamilton set the fastest time as Pre-Season Testing got under way at Imola this morning.
The Gojira driver was one tenth of a second quicker than Esteban Ocon in second for Willows ahead of Robert Kubica and Cooper Lee with Hungarian Grand Prix winner Valterri Bottas completing the top five.
Hamilton completed a solid 51 laps running for Gojira after the team was bottom of the lap charts following the engine manufacturer test last week. Exolite test driver Nelson Piquet set the most amount of laps with 59, five ahead of Willows Stoffel Vandoorne’s total of 54, whilst FJR’s Jenson Button completed the 3rd most with 53.
It was a disapointing session for 2013 runners up Tornado who only completed 63 laps after a pit lane incident kept both drivers in the pits for the second half of the session.
Most of the other teams were able to run trouble free apart from Felipe Massa who suffered an engine fire in the Andrew Racing and Kamui Kobayashi who spun off the track at Acque Minerali.
The teams will return to testing tomorrow.
