Hamilton stays top in Afternoon session

Lewis Hamilton set the fastest time for Gojira as the 2014 Engine Manufacturer test drew to a close this afternoon.

Hamilton’s time of 1m 19.706 was only 3 thousandths of a second faster than he managed in the morning, and he completed the same amount of laps as the morning, 30.

Sebastian Vettel and Kamui Kobayashi maintained their 2nd and 3rd places from the morning but both ran reduced amounts of laps. Nico Rosberg was the fastest Willows car, switching to the soft tyre compound but was only able to lap a tenth of a second faster than he had done on the medium tyres in the morning.

Fernando Alonso was 5th, switching from the soft tyres to the mediums ahead of Tomas Gonzalez in the Tornado on mediums in 6th. Jenson Button and Daniel Ricciardo were 7th and 8th respectively on the Hard tyres, Esteban Ocon meanwhile set the 9th fastest time on Softs whilst Jean-Eric Vergne slipped to 10th on Mediums.

Overall it was a productive day for Willows who climbed to the top of the lap charts in the afternoon session with 252 laps across the day, with FJR 2nd in terms of lap count with 248. Whilst their pace had been good Gojira will be concerned that they completed the fewest laps with 238.

The teams will now move to Imola and will be joined by the customer teams for the first main pre-season test at the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari next week.
