The AFIA have announced that the separate Engine Manufacturer test has been dropped from the schedules for 2018 amongst a raft of changes to the series Engine development formula.
Furthermore, in the public pre-season tests, manufacturer teams will no longer have the option to develop their engines. They will instead earn DP per lap passively the same way they do in races, and can choose when to spend this as part of their usual in-season development process.
The AFIA plans further changes from the 2019 entry period. Team and Engine manufacturer finances will be separated to keep costs down and to ensure that manufacturer teams are not sacrificing themselves to develop the engine for others. Manufacturer teams will now pay for their engines at the same cost of a customer. They will be unable to invest additional funds beyond this. Manufacturer teams will then spend the money received to develop the engines.
