Robert Wickens took a superb victory yesterday to clinch the Teams Championship for Carlin TornadoF1 and leave Jean-Eric Vergne needing just a point to secure his Drivers Championship title.
Wickens took the lead after making an early pitstop and putting in a number of fast laps to overhaul pole-sitter Jaime Alguersuari, who closed in the final laps as Wickens hit traffic but was unable to overtake the Canadian and had to settle for 2nd.
Championship leader Jean-Eric Vergne finished a comfortable 3rd. The result means that Alguersuari is 25 points behind the Frenchman going into today’s final race and, as the Spaniard has won more races over the season, Alguersuari must win the race and hope that Vergne fails to score in order to take the title.
