FJR’s lead driver Kevin Magnussen will remain with the Yorkshire team for a fifth consecutive season with the announcement coming days before the closure of the driver renewal period.
Despite talks of the relationship going sour after Spielberg where Magnussen put in an uncharacteristically scruffy performance, his redemption drive at Silverstone has put him back into FJR’s good books and enough to convince team boss James Brickles to further extend the highly-rated Dane’s contract for another season. Talking of the post-Spielberg comments, Brickles has held the team’s Chief Media Officer, Bill Nigh-Eve, responsible for an “ill-judged faecal description of Magnussen’s race” and will be administering severe sanctions in the form of no sugar in his tea for the rest of the season.
Brickles was apparently looking to renew Catharina Caracciola’s contract for 2018 as well, but like the season before, both couldn’t be retained at the same time for financial reasons with speculation that FJR are investing in a brand new car for 2018 after a somewhat ordinary 2017 season.
