Gonzalez to make FF1M debut at Singapore

Following the conclusion to the Italian Grand Prix weekend, it was announced today that recently crowned FF2M champion Tomas Gonzalez will make his FF1M debut for Tornado Motorsport at the Singapore Grand Prix.

The young Argentine has been immensely impressive throughout 2014. Clinching the FF2M drivers title at Monza with victory in Saturday’s feature race, he amassed a total of 109 championship points along with six race victories. This ensured he wrapped up the championship with a full round to spare.

Both team and driver are hoping that debutising in the final few races of 2014 can give Gonzalez a head-start in terms of preparation ahead of his first full FF1M campaign in 2015. “We see this as a major opportunity to get some much needed race distances under Tomas’s belt and also hope that this will help the team recover something from what has been a trying season in this new engine formula.” Team Principal Tobias said.

Gonzalez will take over from Bruno Senna who moves back to his support role as test driver with the team. “Bruno has had a solid return to FF1M in the six races he participated in and provided bigger challenge to Jean-Eric” Tobias commented. It is perhaps ironic that the Brazilian’s final race for the team saw him standing on the Italian GP podium, though that was thanks to a late puncture to his team mate.

Tornado have also announced that In FF2M Mitchell-refugee Jaime Alguersuari will fill the Argentine’s vacant seat for the FF2M finale in Barcelona next month. The Spaniard will be aiming for redemption after his second and final sacking from Tornado’s Somerset neighbours. This means he will be racing at his home venue at Barcelona for the final FF2M round to help ensure Spaniel clinch the constructors title for an unprecedented sixth consecutive season.
