2018 Preview : Tildesley GP

Having competed in two classic FF1M seasons, Tildesley GP will be taking a dip into the main series for the 2018 with a dynamic rookie line-up of George Russell and Antonio Giovinazzi, neither of which have competed in a single FF1M race and have relatively little preparation compared to other rookies such as Esteban Ocon and Mason Taylor. Nevertheless, team boss Jake Tildesley has given big opportunities for both his drivers to compete in the top class and he also chatted with lead FF1M commentator James Brickles about the upcoming season.

JB: Good to see you in the main series for 2018. What are your main aims for the upcoming season?

JT: My main aim for the upcoming season is to not be the worst team on the grid.

JB: You have competed in two seasons prior to this one, 1993 and 1994, and… let’s say they didn’t quite go to plan. Do you feel having access to a team plan spreadsheet for 2018 gives you more control compared to the 90s?

JT: Definitely as I am able plan each session, unlike in the 90s.

JB: You have an all-rookie line-up of George Russell and Antonio Giovinazzi, both of whom raced for you in FF2M last season. Do you feel they’re ready for the big league?

JT: I do feel that both George and Antonio are ready for the big league.

JB: You’re one of two teams running customer Hart engines, and their parent team, Ajay Motorsports are allowing customers to run up to 100% ERS in race trim. Are you planning to go cautious or aggressive on engine modes?

JT: I’m planning on being aggressive with the engine modes to get the best out of the engine.

JB: Any early predictions for the 2018 championships?

JT: My early prediction for the season is that it will be a close fight between Tornado and Andrew Racing for the title. I think that my team will finish 10th out of the 13 teams.
