Mitchell sack Alguersuari… again

In addition to the confirmation on Saturday morning of Cooper Lee being signed as a driver for 2015, Mitchell are continuing to grab the headlines. After the conclusion to the British GP held at Silverstone, team boss Joey Mitchell has announced yet more changes are afoot within the team.

Jaime Alguersuari has been sacked by Mitchell Racing for the second time in three seasons. Unlike in 2012 however, it would appear that the young Spaniard has left the team with immediate effect after failing to make amends for his demotion to FF2M two seasons ago.

Surrounding members of the FF1M paddock could hear a loud shouting match ensue between Alguersuari and Joey Mitchell after qualifying on Saturday afternoon. The Mitchell boss allegedly stormed straight into Jaime’s pit garage and fired him on the spot in front of the entire team after only managing a dismal back row starting position.

Rather swiftly soon afterwards in true Mitchell fashion, Mitchell announced the return of their team’s former race winner and recent Tornado refugee, Sebastien Buemi. The Swiss driver will be hoping for a quick redemption after briefly getting demoted from race driver to test driver status due to a pointless first half of the season. He will no doubt be aiming to get his FF1M career back on track with the team he achieved his three race wins to date during the 2010 FF1M season.

This news of course has ramifications for Tornado Motorsports too with team boss Tobias having to find a new test driver alongside their future driver, Tomas Gonzalez. Subsequently, Tornado have announced that Gonzalez’s FF2M teammate and reigning FF2M Asia champion Fabio Leimer will take over from his fellow Swiss driver’s testing duties.
