Leclerc extends with Tornado for 2019

Tornado Motorsports today have announced their rookie driver Charles Leclerc will remain with the team for 2019, with discussions said to have accelerated following the Monegasque’s victory at Silverstone two weeks ago.

Team boss Tobias Wolff had this to say. “We are thrilled to announce Charles’ contract extension into 2019. He’s certainly shown his strong potential in his rookie season. Some people in the paddock criticised the decision to promote him this season. Thinking that it was too soon for his own development. The kid has always had huge abundance of speed and we clocked it early. He showed his talent in full display at Road America and Silverstone to achieve two euphoric victories. Hopefully he can build momentum and consistency into the season’s second half. There is little doubt he will be an FF1M champion one day. If not this season, another one soon. I considered his extension, a no-brainer.”

Quizzed on their reigning drivers champion, Vaino Kimminen’s position in the team. “Talks with Vaino are ongoing. Fingers crossed, there will be news on that soon. We are very happy with our current duo.” However, Wolff also went on to say. “Anything can happen. There are several high profile drivers currently out of contract end of this year. As it stands, Vaino is one of those. All available options have to be considered to achieve the maximum result possible in this sport. Vaino knows this very well. A part of what makes him a great champion. Numerous teams will have him on their radars for sure. Hopefully he decides to extend with us. He’s an integral part of the team.”
