Imola has lost its place on the FF1M calendar according to circuit director Alessandro Tutti Fruiti.
The Italian, who is not at all a cultural stereotype, appeared to confirm the news during a passionate interview with David Shoutcast and former Gui Racing and Exolite driver Anthony Davidson during coverage of Friday’s Practice Sessions.
The circuit has struggled to produce much overtaking since FF1M moved to the GP4 regulations in 2011. The circuit has also faced increased scrutiny over safety in the wake of an incident on Sunday where Fernando Alonso appeared to hit a kerb hidden in the grass which launched his car into the fences, ending his race and launching debris into the path of oncoming drivers.
AFIA officials would not be drawn on whether a decision had been made but rumours of high level talks with the Portuguese circuit of Estoril were rumoured to have taken place during last weekends FF2M test.
