The AFIA has invited tyre suppliers to submit applications to supply tyres for FF1M from 2017 The Bear can exclusively reveal.
The design brief, seen by The Bear whilst eating Marmalade sandwiches in the Gojira hospitality unit at Aragon, indicates that the governing body is hoping to attract “a minimum of two suppliers” who will be “required to partner with a maximum of six teams” to “develop a Medium and Soft compound tyre” alongside a “Hard control tyre which will not be developed”. The Bear understands that the basic characteristics, such as sizing, are not expected to change.
The AFIA has previously confirmed that the final specifications will be made available to teams and press at the Monaco Grand Prix, where other rule changes for 2017 are expected to be revealed.
