CBA Racing have finally confirmed the long-persisting rumours of Mason Taylor making his FF1M debut slightly earlier than planned to be true as he will replace Kimi Raikkonen for the final two races of the 2017 season, becoming the first driver from New Zealand to race in the top level series.
Despite an underwhelming end to his FF2M campaign, Taylor has enjoyed a good season with STV Racing where he finished 3rd in the championship behind the battling Chuck Bucknum and Charles Leclerc. Speaking of his arrival, CBA Racing team boss, Chris Brickles, says, “Due to his relatively young age, reasonable success in FF2M, and decent pace on Fridays… seems a good deal.”
Conversely, Raikkonen has had a poor season with his beaching of the car at Suzuka being the latest example of him not getting to grips with the CBA-17. His podium finish at Monza was perhaps his only highlight of 2017, but at least he’ll still be in FF1M next season with Ajay Motorsports, effectively acting as a mentor to the young Mattia Alfonsi.
