After over a decade in FF1M Pirelli have announced that they will no longer supply tyres from 2017 onwards citing a difference of opinion with AFIA rulemakers about the series future tyre specification.
The Italian premium calendar maker and mid tier tyre supplier has supplied all the teams since the beginning of the 2005 season. Previously Michelin and Bridgestone were embroiled in a tyre war and it has long been rumoured that the AFIA favoured a return to such a system.
The AFIA were approached for comment but would only respond that “The 2017 series specification will be announced at the Monaco Grand Prix”.
