Finland’s Vaino Kimminen extended his lead to 22 points at the top of the 2015-16 FF2M Asia Drivers Championship by taking pole position for tomorrows Feature Race on the outer circuit at Sakhir International Circuit.
The Tornado test driver who also topped the times during the FF1M Engine Manufacturer Test yesterday was half a tenth of a second ahead of Willows Genjo Tse, with the second Willows of Esteban Ocon third with all three drivers qualifying using the Soft tyres, which means they will contest the Feature Race on the slower Hard compound.
Kimminen’s nearest challenger in the title race James Clark faces an uphill task to keep the championship going until the final round, starting the race from nineth on the grid having chosen to qualify on the Hard compound. With a maximum of 42 points now available over the final two rounds, the Gojira driver needs to outscore Kimminen for the rest of the weekend to ensure that he still has a mathematical chance of taking the title. Clark’s task will not be helped by the likes of Atlantic’s Mattia Alfonsi and LiquiTarget’s Pierre Gasly starting ahead of him in fourth and seventh respectively on the same Soft tyre compound.
The Feature Race will be broadcast live tomorrow on the FF1M YouTube channel.
