Hamilton makes decision on his future

In the fading Monza evening sunshine, Lewis Hamilton stood wearing an Armani suit at a hastily built podium and flanked by best buds, pug – Roscoe and brother – Nicolas, in front of gathered media to make an announcement to his 2019 plans. He’s staying where he is.

Hamilton will enter his fourth season with Mitchell next season, hoping for an upturn in fortunes with the team. He won the championship in his first year with Mitchell, but in the two seasons since development has dropped off to the extent that the team seemed to prioritise pole position statistics towards the end of last season.

The Stevenage born driver is one of the most successful to have ever driven in the sport. Winning the drivers title a record equalling four occasions (2009, 2010, 2012 and 2016), alongside Ayrton Senna (1987, 1989, 1991 and 1994) and Michael Schumacher (1992, 1995, 1996 and 1998), Hamilton holds the record for pole positions with 39, and race victories with 42. He has scored 938 points which is second only to Fernando Alonso who is way ahead on 1122.
