GRM junior Giedo Van der Garde grabbed pole position for the final round of the 2011 FF2M season at Monza. The Dutchman lapped in 1m 24.032 seconds just over a tenth of a second quicker than Jerome D’Ambrosio in the STV Racing who starts from 2nd.
Championship protagonists Paul Di Resta and Esteban Gutierrez could only manage 4th and 9th on the grid respectively. Missing out on Pole Position rules out LiquiTarget duo Sam Bird, 3rd on the grid, and Fabio Leimer, 6th on the grid, from winning the title, whilst it also makes Di Resta’s task of closing down a thirty-four point gap on leader Gutierrez even more difficult with the Mexican needing only to finish in 4th place or higher in the feature race to guarantee the title.
