FF2M confirmed their 2019 calendar in a press conference at Brno today ahead of the inaugaral round of the championship at the circuit.
Whilst Brno does not feature on the 2019 calendar it will host pre-season testing for the series new car, the FF2-2019. Designed and built by D’llama the car will feature two aerokits that teams may swap between at will depending on the nature of each circuit. The lower downforce specification will give the cars extra speed on the straights and slower cornering speeds whilst the higher downforce aerokit will naturally lead to higher grip around the corners and slower straight line speeds.
On the 2019 calendar Shanghai and Jerez’s returns to the FF1M schedule are reflected whilst the junior series will once again host a standalone round in Spielberg. The North American leg of the championship will meanwhile move to Montreal after the high level of accidents at Road America this season.
The news that FF2M wanted to convey however is that the series will return to Hockenheim which has been made possible by the new sporting regulations which allow teams to change aero kits between events.
“It didn’t really make sense to go to Hockenheim before. We’d be watching cars with equal top speeds going off into the forest and coming back two minute later with the gaps almost exactly the same.” FF2M boss Brian Michael commented. “But now with the new aero kits we should see some difference, a challenge for the team managers to overcome. One of the key ideas behind the new car and the aerokits is to give team managers a slimmed down taste of the choices they will find as they move up into FF1M”
