The FF1M Engine Manufacturers Association (EMA), comprising Ferrari, Renault, Mercedes, BMW and Honda, today announced their intention to withdraw from FF1M at the end of the season.
A joint statement signed by the Heads of Motorsport of each of the manufacturers advised that there were a number of factors which influenced the decision including the rising costs with the new 2014 engine formula and the disrespectful comments that their former member Toyota received last season.
The AFIA would not be drawn on the effect this decision would have on the championship though it is understood that a contingency plan has been discussed with leading teams and will be revealed in due course.
We will have more on this story as it develops.
